I’m Just Here for the Snacks: Disney Edition

I’m Just Here for the Snacks: Disney Edition

Disney snacks are legendary. You can declare your love of Disney snacks via t-shirt, tote, toy, and even Loungefly backpack. Yes, you can bring your own food and drinks into the park. But you’re at Disney—enjoy yourself. Save the Larabars for the drive home when you need something to bridge the gap between chocolate mousse and Monday’s sugar fast.

On our last trip, we tried some new treats and enjoyed old favorites. I’m sharing what I thought was worth the stop and what I’d skip next time! Full disclosure: I have a massive sweet tooth. So my snack choices definitely reflect that. If you want savory, I hear the popcorn is so good they make refillable popcorn buckets just to give you something else to carry around the park. I mean, let you enjoy more popcorn instead of delicious, refreshing ice cream.

France

Our first park of the trip was EPCOT. Once we were ready for a snack, we scouted out Sunshine Seasons, located in the Land Pavilion, but we weren’t impressed with the offerings—especially so close to World Showcase. Instead, we made our way to France.

I was hoping to get some ice cream from L’Artisan des Glaces, France’s ice cream shop. Sadly, the line is always long, and at this point, it was in direct sun. My husband had already ditched me for Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie, with its indoor queue and variety of pastries, croissants, and mousses.

The girls and I quickly caved and followed him inside, where we enjoyed Café Liégeois (a coffee and cream mousse) and Framboise (raspberry mousse with chocolate cake and raspberry jam). These were pretty good, though perhaps not as refreshing as the ice cream would have been. We’ll try again next time!

Hollywood Studios

The next morning, we headed to Hollywood Studios. We got there early to take advantage of Extra Magic Hours, and by mid-morning, we were ready for a snack. My middle kid wanted to make sure she got some popcorn on the trip, so that was her pick. She loved it! My oldest kid got some sort of blue slushie monstrosity that tasted like blue but at least cooled her down. I grabbed an iced latte and an apple fritter from the Joffrey’s stand.

Joffrey’s is…fine, but the iced latte hit the spot in the Florida heat. The apple fritter was surprisingly delicious! I had to share with my little guy, but at least he knows the coffee is for grown-ups.

When we came back to Hollywood Studios on Thursday, morning snacks were fresh on everyone’s mind. We wanted to grab a funnel cake, which turned out not to be available until after 11. We hit a couple more rides, and the caramel-apple pie funnel cake from Epic Eats was worth the wait. This was enough for our whole family to share. Trying to recreate the magic from earlier in the week, I got a cold brew to go with it. This was no iced latte, and I ended up letting my husband finish it. He liked it, but it wasn’t sweet enough for me!

Magic Kingdom

Every trip, I end up getting a little grumpy at some point. And believe it or not, this trip’s meltdown occurred when my husband suggested we get our evening treat from the Main Street Confectionery. He had taken the big kids on one last ride and was going to meet the toddler and me there. I had a chance to scope it out ahead of time, not see anything that caught my eye, and get completely overstimulated by the time he arrived. I really wanted ice cream at the BoardWalk and got a little cranky about the lack of options. (Also, a lot of the offerings at the Confectionery come with ingredient lists. At Disney, I usually feel like it’s just better not to know.)

I tried my best to just suck it up and say “none for me, thanks.” But I’m sure I was pouting a little bit. My husband and middle kid each picked out a Rice Krispie treat. My oldest kid picked out chocolates shaped like Mickey with candy stars inside, which she described as “weird.” We snuck around to the steps outside the popcorn section of the Confectionery to eat our treats, and clearly we were not the first family to do so. A very bold squirrel joined our party immediately, snatching up any M&Ms that fell from the Rice Krispies. He knew exactly where to find his next meal! I’m not sure M&Ms are any better for squirrels than they are for us, but he was certainly entertaining.

BoardWalk

After our treat, we headed back to the BoardWalk. I decided to actually do something about the fact that I still wanted ice cream and left my husband to start bedtime while I headed down to the promenade. I quickly realized that he was right to pick the Confectionery when I saw the line for ice cream! Instead, I popped into the deli and got a cannoli. It was no thundering surf peanut butter and chocolate sundae, but it was tasty nonetheless. Another treat to look forward to next time! And a reminder that there is always sugar for those who seek it at Disney.

Norway

Before we left to head home, we stopped by World Showcase in EPCOT to ride Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Frozen Ever After. Since we were in Norway mid-morning, we decided to grab a treat from Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe. We shared a school bread and a Norwegian kringla. The dough seemed a little dry, and no one was wowed by them (though we managed to eat every bite). It was fun to try a new snack place, but next time I might choose the cinnamon roll with orange cream cheese icing instead!

Favorites for Next Time

Alas, I did not get my favorite of all Disney snacks, the Dole Whip float, on this trip. My oldest kid got one while I was hanging with the toddler during nap time, and we just never made it back over to Magic Kingdom at the right time for me to get one. I also never did get my ice cream, whether from France, the BoardWalk, or even Tomorrowland’s delightfully named Auntie Gravity’s. All the more reason to book another trip!

Do you have favorite Disney snacks? What’s a new one you want to try on your next (or first) trip? Are you team sweet or team savory? Let me know in the comments! I love hearing from you!
